Net-zero carbon roadmap for a commercial warehouse aiming for net-zero emissions by 2050

Summary

  • The project aimed to develop a roadmap for achieving net-zero carbon operational emissions by 2035 in a commercial warehouse in Alberta.

  • Adaptis identified and evaluated carbon reduction measures based on feasibility, cost, and impact, sequencing them into a clear plan of action in just 6 weeks.

  • The resulting roadmap provides a strategic path for the client to achieve their ambitious sustainability goals by 2035.

Building Information

This project involved a commercial warehouse in Alberta, built in 2013, where the developer is committed to ambitious ESG goals, aiming to reduce operating emissions by 50% by 2030 and achieve net zero emissions by 2050. To support these objectives, Adaptis conducted a comprehensive feasibility study to identify and evaluate Carbon Reduction Measures (CRMs) and develop a roadmap to achieve Net Zero Carbon (NZC) operational emissions by 2035.

Challenge

The developer’s strong commitment to sustainability and achieving net-zero emissions drove this project. However, identifying technically feasible and cost-effective carbon reduction measures that align with the building’s specific energy and carbon performance while also sequencing these measures in a practical and efficient manner is highly complex. A traditional consultancy firm would have taken 6+ months to provide recommendations, and could potentially cause cost overruns and missed sustainability targets.

Summary of Targets

The scope included identifying and sequencing carbon reduction measures to create a clear roadmap for achieving net-zero operational emissions by 2035. The client's motivation was driven by their ESG goals, focusing on substantial emission reductions within a defined timeline.

Results

A detailed sequence of Carbon Reduction Measures (CRMs) that achieve Net Zero Carbon (NZC) operations by 2035 was provided to the client along with year over year financial results.

Adaptis Advantage

Adaptis’s AI based platform could efficiently and accurately evaluate and sequence carbon reduction measures, ensuring the roadmap was both technically sound and financially viable delivering results in just 6 weeks. This approach supports the client's ESG goals, aligning with their long-term sustainability vision while managing costs effectively.
